Exploring sonder,
and the people around you.
Defined by The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, Sonder is the the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.
If you’ve ever been people watching you have probably experienced sonder. Thoughts such as “I wonder where that person is going?” or “I wonder what they’re thinking?” may have crossed your mind as you watched people go about their day.
Our installation is meant to visually represent sonder and give you the opportunity to actually get inside the the minds of the people around you. Throughout the mural are real recordings of people speaking their thoughts as they come.
Realizing that all 7 billion people in the world have lives as complex as yours can feel overwhelming, but it is also a comforting reminder that you're not going through life alone.
